If you were looking forward to Dane Cook’s Broadway debut you’ll have to wait a bit longer. And if you weren’t, you’ve just been handed a reprieve: producers for the coming Broadway production of “Fat Pig” said on Thursday that they were postponing the show’s opening until the 2011-2012 season after losing a “key investment.”

“Fat Pig,” the Neil LaBute play about a man who dates a woman who his friends deem overweight, was to begin previews at the Belasco Theater on April 12 and open on April 26. The production, whose cast includes Josh Hamilton, Julia Stiles, Heather Jane Rolff and Mr. Cook, the popular if polarizing comedian, was to mark the Broadway directing debut of Mr. LaBute.

But the show’s producers Aldo Scrofani and Heather Provost said Thursday that there had been a “last-minute fallout of a key investment” which did not permit them “enough time to reacquire the necessary capital and begin rehearsals on schedule to open prior to the Tony Awards cutoff date.”

The producers added in a statement: “It’s our dream to keep this terrific cast and stunning creative team intact as we work to reschedule ‘Fat Pig’ for next season. The current financial situation did not leave adequate time to maintain the integrity of the show and its marketing campaign. This play deserves to be seen on Broadway and we remain very much committed to that goal.”

No new dates for the production were immediately announced, and the show’s press representatives said ticket holders could receive refunds or exchange tickets for future performances.
