Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel this summer
The 23-year-old could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer, with the News of the World reporting that he is set to discuss his future at the club, which has alerted Premier League leaders United.
The Nigeria international was set to move to Old Trafford in 2006 after agreeing a deal with his club at the time, FK Lyn of Oslo.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believed he the deal had been completed, but Chelsea controversially ended up signing the player, leading to a legal battle between the clubs over the transfer and who first had a deal in place.
Chelsea were ordered to pay Manchester United £12million for Mikel's services as well as a further £4m to Lyn.
Real Madrid, whose manager Jose Mourinho worked with Obi Mikel when he was in charge at Chelsea, are also believed to have shown interest ahead of an expected major overhaul at the west London club this summer which is set to see several players sold.
